Taking Root Together, Growing Together
1,500 Trees for Butiiti
To support the families of our sponsored children in Butiiti, we are launching a new project. Our goal: 1,500 trees for a greener and more secure future.
By planting useful trees such as papaya, mango, coffee, Musizi, and Goveria, we are creating a foundation for livelihood that goes far beyond the planting itself:
Relief for Children
Firewood is scarce in Butiiti. Searching for it daily is arduous and often affects the most vulnerable: children have to help out, missing valuable hours of school as a result. One day, their own land will provide sustainable firewood. This will relieve the children, allowing them to attend school regularly.
Nutrition & Income
The fruits help families become self-sufficient. Any surplus is sold at local markets, generating an independent income.
Building Material
Tree species like Musizi and Goveria will serve as valuable timber for the families’ own construction needs and for sale in the long term.
Environmental & Climate Protection
The trees absorb CO2, which protects the environment and slows down climate change. They also improve soil fertility and act as natural windbreaks to prevent erosion on the land.
Our Action Plan
BCICI is purchasing healthy, 15 to 20 cm seedlings. Each of the 28 families selected for the project who have sufficient land will plant their trees on their own property and take on their long-term care. This fosters true personal responsibility and sustainable benefits. Our sponsored children are also involved in the care and cultivation, learning valuable skills for their own future.
As this is a long-term project, it will take a few years before fruit can be harvested and the trees are large enough to be used for timber. Selling surplus fruit and timber will also ensure that the project becomes self-sustaining, allowing new trees to be replanted continuously.
